Richard Edgar "Dick" Matthews

RICHARD EDGAR “DICK” MATTHEWS, age 77, of Washington CH, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. 

He was born on July 17, 1945 in Fayette County to Edgar L. and Alberta L. Matthews. Dick proudly served in the Ohio National Guard for six consecutive years. He and his brother, Kenny owned and operated Matthews Homes; Dick also managed several rental properties in the local area. Dick attended Heritage Church. He enjoyed mowing, raising chickens, painting cars, participating in demolition derby’s with his brothers, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lori Ann (Matthews) Bailey; and sister, Barb Dewees.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Gracie Mae Matthews, whom he married on July 16, 1991; his children, Matt Matthews, Robert Penrod, and Michael Penrod; grandchildren, Logan Bailey, Eli Bailey, Leila Penrod, and Zoey Penrod; and siblings, Jack (Sandy) Matthews, Kenny (Connie) Matthews, and Jim Matthews. Also surviving are several additional grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Duvall officiating. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place following services and burial will be held at the Washington Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
