Robert Eugene Smith Obituary

ROBERT EUGENE SMITH, age 92, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at St. Catherine’s Manor or Washington CH.

He was born on December 1, 1931, in Madison County, Ohio to the late Roby and Bessie (Joseph) Smith. He was a 1949 graduate of Madison Mills High School. Robert retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio where he worked as an engineer for twenty-five plus years. He enjoyed walking his dog and sitting on his front porch always waiting to give a friendly hello wave to anyone who drove by.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard “Dick” Smith, and Mary Ellen Smith, and his beloved canine companion, Tuff.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Mary Jane (Toops) Smith, whom he married on December 21, 1951; his daughters, Sandie (Roy Payton) Brown, and Joyce (Rick) Taylor; grandchildren, Jason Brown, and Jessica (Justin) Adams; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Addilynn, and Chloe Brown, Oaklee, Frankie, and Birdie Adams; and siblings, James “Buck” Smith, Lillian “Lil” Rodgers, and Patricia “Ann” (TR) Rupert. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and burial will be held at the Madison Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
