Roger George Sockman

ROGER GEORGE SOCKMAN, age 73, of Mt. Sterling, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 12:10 a.m. at Mount Carmel East in Columbus.

He was born on September 26, 1947 in Fayette County to Albert Theodore and Bernice Christine (Redding) Sockman. Roger retired from the Columbus Show Case Company after many years of service. Roger was raised in the Era Holiness Wesleyan Methodist Church in Era, Ohio. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeye fan.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Evie E. (Coder) Sockman, whom he married on March 28, 1972; and siblings, Melvin Sockman, Betty Jane Waites, Phillip Sockman, Theodore Sockman, Wanda Vanover, and Bob Sockman.

Survivors include his son, Brian L. “Skeet” Sockman; siblings, Jean Ann (Bob) Hall, Lucinda (Orville) Harper, Ronnie (Karen) Sockman, Jack (Shirley) Sockman, Terry (Linda) Sockman, and Sue Graham; and best friend, Lynn Borden. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear and special friends.

The graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bethel Cemetery in Range with Danny Dodds officiating. Family and friends may visit at the Summers Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 10-11:00 a.m.
