RUTH EVELYN SMITH, age 77, of Washington CH, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 7:15 p.m. while residing at St. Catherine’s Manor located in Washington CH.

She was born on April 9, 1943 in Fayette County to Ralph and Martha Davis Strouse. Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She dedicated her time to thoughtfully raising her three girls and grandchildren. She cared deeply for her family and never did a moment pass when her family questioned how deeply her love for them ran. Ruth was known for her love to shop, Sunday meals, and constant need to nurture her family and the community of Staunton.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold William “Smitty” Smith, whom she lovingly married on June 4, 1961; sister, Betty (Dale Wilson) Harner; and sister-in-law, Ann Strouse.

Survivors who will miss her dearly include her children, Tammy (Dan) Butler, Tonya (Brett) Curtis, and Tanya (Lee Dyke) Allen; grandchildren, Shayna (TJ) McWhorter, Danielle (Ethan) Hawkins, Taylor (Nathaniel) Miller, Madison Curtis, Hannah Curtis, Cheyenne (Zac Thomas) Allen, and Hunter Allen; great-grandchildren, Haven, Taylor, Devyn, Mariah, Bailey, Austin, and Jaxson; three great-granddaughters arriving in October, Elsie Jo, Hadley Marie, and Ivy Evelyn; and siblings, Charles Strouse, Shirley (Sonny) Rittenhouse, and Sonny (Linda) Strouse. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends. All of whom loved her dearly and will never forget her wit, strong will, constant giving tendencies, and above all, her unconditional love.

A private graveside service will be held at the White Oak Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends may graciously send graveside flowers to Summers Funeral Home located in Washington CH to honor Ruth by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.
