Shirley Greene Obituary

SHIRLEY ANN MORGAN GREENE, age 85, of Washington CH, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in her home at Court House Manor Assisted Living.

Shirley was born on October 20, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to Fred and Esther Hertlein Morgan. She graduated from South High School in 1953. Shirley owned her own hair salon, Backyard Boutique, and worked as a cosmetologist for many years. In her 50’s she fulfilled a lifelong dream by completing her nursing degree, but her greatest joy and crowning achievement was raising a family she was so proud of.

She enjoyed square dancing - and that is where she met the love of her life, Jim Greene. They married September 9, 1991 and enjoyed many happy years together.

Shirley had many talents and interests. She loved to sing and was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Dayton for several years. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, decorate cakes, and any other crafty project she put her mind to. She was also quite the accomplished still life oil painter. She was a faithful member of Heritage Memorial Church. She loved to play cards and socialize at the Fayette County Commission on Aging.

Shirley lived life to the fullest. She loved her Lord and relied on Him for strength and courage to tackle life’s challenges. She lived out a legacy of faith for her children. She adored her family – especially the little ones.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Greene; siblings, Bob (Ruth) Morgan and Bill (Clara) Morgan; and daughter, Jan Pickering.

She will be missed by her surviving family – children, Ron (Gorette) Oates, Christi (Bo) Adams, Linda (Doug) Miller, Don Oates, Mark (Cindy) Oates, Shari West, Gary (Intassar) Greene, Steven (Peggy) Greene, Linda Greene; grandchildren, Morgan (Mike) Merriman, Blake (Sheena) Oates, Emily (Will) Lake, Jessica (Kyle) Schafer, Nic (Erika) Miller, Nathan (Grace) Miller, Dean (Kaitlin) Oates, Sara Oates, Taylor Hunt, Candice Oates, Ben Oates, Brad Oates, Amber (Kyle) Smith, Joan West, Jill (Britt) Barry, James (Jessica) Greene, Jason (Cassandra) Greene, Jeanelle (Dean) Allen and Gary Greene Jr; great-grandchildren, Nolan Merriman, Gianna Oates, Aidan Earles, Greyson Lake, Ethan Lake, Stone Schafer, Von Schafer, Kate Miller, Garrett Miller, McKenzie Miller, Owen Miller, Briella Miller, Weston Smith, Emma Smith, Anna Smith, Joey Stone, Kylie Barry, Millie Barry, and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage Memorial Church, 1867 US Highway 35 NW, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Dave Hirschler officiating with interment to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
