Shirley Mae (Rumer) Weeter Obituary

SHIRLEY MAE (RUMER) WEETER went to live with Jesus at 11:21 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025. She was not only ready to go, but anxious to go to heaven, to meet again her husband Lewis, her parents and other loved ones who had gone on before her.

Shirley was born in Washington Court House on February 18, 1936, graduating from Washington Senior High School in 1954. She married Lewis Franklin Weeter in 1954 and continued to live in Washington Court House until the Summer of 2023, when she moved to Owasso, Oklahoma to live with her son Mark and his wife Brenda. She was blessed to leave this planet from her own bedroom, after a decline in health, which progressed rapidly beginning in October 2024.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Franklin Weeter in 1991, her father Paul Rumer, mother Mildred Davis Waln, stepfather Loren Waln, brother Bobby Rumer, and sister Patricia Cox.

Shirley leaves behind loved ones who will miss her dearly including, her brother Edwin Rumer and spouse Carol, of Staunton, Ohio, son, Mark Weeter and spouse Brenda Leach Weeter, of Owasso, Oklahoma, grandchildren Allison Weeter, Emily Weeter, Megan Weeter Renz and spouse Dustin Renz, and great-grandchildren Lewis Otto Renz and Ryan Elizabeth Renz.

Shirley is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, and who returned that love to her in a myriad of ways.

Shirley worked for National Cash Register for 17 years before its closing and finished out her working years at Mac Tools prior to retirement at age 60.

The only person Shirley loved more than her family, was Jesus. She loved to worship him at Heritage Memorial Church (formerly Gregg Street Church), where she attended for over 60 years. She served her church in various roles through the years, but she will be remembered best as the lead teacher in the Maranatha Sunday School class. She loved her class and serving Jesus in this manner.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Church with Rev. Joe Duvall officiating with burial to follow at the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the church on Saturday morning from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Church in Shirley’s name.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Summers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.summersfuneralhome.com
