SYLVIA MARIE HAWKINS, age 64, of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
She was born on April 27, 1959 in Greenfield, Ohio to the late Orville G. and Mary L. (Blevins) Hinkley. She was a 1977 graduate of Washington High School. Sylvia worked alongside Joy Stanforth for many years at the Fayette County Domestic Violence Project and the Fayette County Supervised Visitation Center. She attended The Gathering Place and Unity Fellowship Church. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, reading, taking long rides, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her siblings, Melvin “Pat” Hinkley, Marilyn Rhinehart, Shirley Detty, and Ralph Hinkley; and her niece, Lenora L. Havens.
Survivors include the love of her life, Vernon Earl Hawkins, whom she married on October 18, 1997; her children, Jason Carner, Joseph (Hannah) Carner, Owen (Jackie) Hawkins, and Marie Hawkins; nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; siblings, Glen (Leona) Hinkley, and Judy (Charlie) Cornell; sisters-in-law, Sylvia “Jeanie” Hinkley, and Ethel Hinkley; and brother-in-law, Joe Detty. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Rose Avenue Dream Center at a later date.
