Velma Ruth Forsythe

VELMA RUTH FORSYTHE, age 102, of Washington CH, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on July 30, 1922 in Adams County, Ohio to the late John and Dixie (Bowman) Bick. She leaves behind two children, Linda Sue Melton, and Samuel Wayne Forsythe, both of Washington CH; grandchildren, Belinda Melton, Barry Forsythe, and Jason Forsythe; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Warren Forsythe, whom she married on November 3, 1940; grandson, Brett Jared Melton; and two brothers and one sister.

She was a 1939 graduate of Winchester High School in Winchester, Ohio. Velma and her husband, Wayne, moved to Fayette County in 1943 to begin farming.

Velma had a profound sense of humor and laughed easily. She recognized friends that she may not have seen for years and up until the time of her death she engaged in conversation with them.

She attended the Gregg Street Church of Christ in Christian Union and Heritage Memorial Church. On any given day, one might drive past the farm and see her up on a ladder painting the barn. She continued doing this well into her seventies. Velma was always busy doing something. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends she had made over the years.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Hope Cemetery with Joy Stanforth officiating.
